Nanoveu (ASX: NVU) has unveiled a collaboration between its subsidiary EMASS and Semtech to combine EMASS’s ECS-DoT edge-AI System-on-Chip with Semtech’s LoRa transceivers. The integrated platform is designed for industrial, infrastructure and remote monitoring markets that require long-range connectivity with minimal power consumption. The move places Nanoveu within a fast-growing segment of the IoT landscape where demand is rising for autonomous sensing and reduced cloud dependency.
Global deployment of LoRaWAN devices continues to expand across utilities, logistics, agriculture and asset monitoring. Most devices transmit raw data to the cloud, a model that increases battery drain and network load. The EMASS integration introduces on-device machine learning that filters data locally, enabling sensors to transmit only essential insights. This could materially reshape system design for industrial operators seeking to reduce operating costs linked to cloud processing and network congestion.
Platform Capabilities Explained
The ECS-DoT SoC runs inference workloads at microwatt-to-milliwatt power levels. Semtech’s LoRa technology provides long-range wireless links capable of spanning kilometres. Together, the system enables sensors to interpret acoustic, vibrational or environmental inputs on-device before sending compressed outputs across the LoRaWAN network.
Nanoveu said the platform is engineered for environments with limited power or restricted backhaul. This includes remote industrial assets, distributed infrastructure and security settings where consistent cloud access is impractical.
Reference Designs Demonstrate Early Applications
To accelerate adoption, EMASS and Semtech have produced joint reference designs showcasing predictive maintenance and acoustic event detection. These demonstrate real-world evaluation pathways for OEMs assessing edge-AI deployments.
Semtech’s senior director of wireless ICs product marketing, Shahar Feldman, said: “LoRa transceivers extend the reach of always-on edge AI sensors to environments where traditional connectivity solutions can’t operate or scale effectively.”
Nanoveu’s semiconductor technologies CEO Mark Goranson added: “By pairing ECS-DoT with LoRaWAN, we’re exploring new ways to deploy AI at scale in environments where traditional solutions simply can’t reach.”
The demonstrations will be shown at CES 2026, highlighting fault detection through vibration analysis and audio-based security triggers such as glass-break or impact-event recognition.
Industry Context
Edge-AI adoption is growing due to high cloud-processing costs and tightening power budgets in distributed sensing networks. Hardware that performs inference locally enables faster responses during connectivity gaps and can materially extend device life. This reduces reliance on backhaul infrastructure and opens deployment opportunities in remote areas where maintenance is expensive.
Nanoveu’s technology alignment with the LoRa ecosystem positions EMASS within a market expected to support billions of devices over the next decade across smart-city, industrial and agricultural settings.
