ClearVue Technologies (ASX: CPV) has secured a significant retrofit order in South Africa, with Concept Business Group set to reclad two 10-storey towers using the company’s solar-embedded façade products. The agreement covers Solar Vision Glass, Solar Skylight and Solar Cladding, and is expected to exceed A$1 million in value once the final scope is confirmed.
Large-Scale Retrofit Opportunity
The buildings will undergo complete façade replacement to improve thermal performance and generate on-site electricity. The active solar façade is projected to supply more than 40% of the towers’ energy needs. This output directly reduces operating emissions and lowers reliance on external electricity sources.
This type of retrofit is drawing growing attention globally, as older buildings face rising energy-efficiency requirements. Many existing towers have limited pathways for reducing emissions without major structural work. Solar façades offer a solution that pairs improved insulation with embedded power generation. ClearVue’s inclusion in a project of this scale highlights increasing commercial adoption of building-integrated photovoltaics.
Economic Rationale and Payback
The project’s estimated payback period of under five years is central to its commercial appeal. Quick returns strengthen the case for solar recladding in markets where electricity prices are volatile or grid reliability is inconsistent. Although the project is in early design stages, both companies say the economics are already compelling.
ClearVue Managing Director and CEO Douglas Hunt said, “Retrofitting existing real estate is critical for the environment, but it must also make commercial sense. This project proves that by replacing passive building materials with our active, energy-generating glass, building owners can significantly offset their carbon footprint while generating a return on investment.”
Partner-Led Execution
Concept Business Group will lead design, engineering, and installation, supported by ClearVue’s technical team. Deployment is scheduled for Q2 2026. Managing Director Craig Boyd said, “This installation is about buildings becoming energy generators, offering clients energy options and modernizing real estate assets.”
The two companies have worked together on previous technical initiatives, and Concept Business Group is an official ClearVue license partner. The South African projects add weight to ClearVue’s partner-driven international expansion strategy.
Implications
Building-integrated solar remains a niche segment, yet it aligns with tightening emissions policies across commercial property markets. Many jurisdictions are adopting mandatory energy ratings and retrofit incentives. Projects like this demonstrate how older towers can transition toward lower-carbon operation without full redevelopment.
The anticipated energy contribution of more than 40% places these towers among the more advanced retrofit examples globally. For ClearVue, the project adds a reference site in a region where grid stability challenges further underscore demand for on-site clean generation.
